42nd edition of the Solo Concarneau - Guy Cotten Trophy 2018

Single-handed or double-handed, around forty seasoned sailors are expected on the pontoons of the Concarneau marina for the start on 5 April at 3pm. On the menu for this 42nd edition: a 300 nautical mile course between Ushant and Yeu Island, qualifying for the Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro.

Second round of the French Elite Ocean Racing Championship

While the curtain has just come down on the Solo Maitre Coq, with the consecration of Alexis Loison (CustoPol), the skippers of the Figaro Bénéteau circuit are now preparing for the second event in the French Elite Ocean Racing Championship: the Solo Concarneau Trophée Guy Cotten..

A double format

The particularity of this Solo Concarneau Trophée Guy Cotten 2018 will be the presence on the starting line of boats sailed solo and double-handed. With less than 3 weeks to go before the start of the Transat AG2R - La Mondiale, in consultation with the Figaro Bénéteau Class and the racers, the Société des Régates de Concarneau has decided to open up this edition to duos wishing to carry out a final training session before this transatlantic race to St Barthélémy.

"The event will therefore be open to both categories, single-handed and double-handed", explains Hervé Gautier, race director, "however, only the single-handed sailors will score points in the French Championship.

This allows the crews preparing for this event to train under real conditions, while familiarising themselves with the starting area. As of 23 March, 6 double-handed crews and 10 solo crews have confirmed their entries.

"For all of them, the course will be demanding, taking them to the south of Ushant and then to the island of Yeu, before returning to cross the line in front of Concarneau. They will need to be versatile, first on the tactical tacks at the tip of Finistère, before a long tack further out to sea allowing for more marked options."
Hervé Gautier, Race Director

This 42nd edition of the Solo Concarneau Trophée Guy Cotten will be the last one raced aboard the Figaro Bénéteau 2. The 2019 season will see the arrival of the new Figaro Bénéteau 3, the first production one-design hydrofoil boat ever designed.
